MANAGING SELF-CARE

We are so glad you plan to join us or have joined us.

We have designed our Wellbeing Walks and Wellbeing Programs & Walks to encourage reflection, stimulate thinking and advance your knowledge of wellbeing. The information provided is drawn from the evidence base of positive psychology, wellbeing science and neuroscience.

We have included a range of activities and invite you to try out the activities that resonate with you and what you are aiming to achieve from the program whether it is to feel happier, experience more positive emotions, reduce your stress, reconnect with yourself and others, develop the presence of meaning in life, strengthen your relationships, build your resilience, develop, and achieve meaningful goals, or generally enhance your wellbeing and life satisfaction.

All these outcomes as possible, and like most worthwhile things, can require a bit of effort.  We are here to support you.

There are three zones of learning:

  • the safe zone.

  • the challenge zone.

  • the overwhelm zone.

We invite you to challenge yourself and explore new ideas and concepts.

We encourage you to practice self-care and self-compassion as you progress through the walk or program.

This may include bringing a sense of curiosity and play and holding the concepts lightly. Delve into the content at your own pace and focus on the areas that resonate with you.

If you enter the, overwhelm zone or something feels uncomfortable, learning doesn’t take place, so come back to safety. This might include taking some time out, focussing on another area, or trying out a different activity.  Ask yourself, “What do I need right now to feel safe?” Take responsibility for your own emotional safety. Once you feel safe, start to open up again.

You may choose to call on the people who support you. There is a range of organisations that provide information on managing stress, anxiety, and depression. Reaching out to a helpline or health professional may also be helpful.  Australian organisations that provide information and helplines include:

  • Lifeline 13 11 14

  • Beyond Blue 1300 224 636

  • Suicide Call-back Service 1300 659 467

We hope you find the walk or program engaging, inspiring, and motivating, and look forward to connecting with you.

We acknowledge the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work. We recognise their past and ongoing connection to land, waters and culture; and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
